The Indian cricket board, BCCI, has chosen the time when the official Indian Premier League (IPL) matches will happen. It’s set to be from March 22 to the end of May. However, the exact dates are not final because of the upcoming general elections in the country next summer. The schedule will depend on the election plan.
The cricket boards of Australia, South Africa, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and the West Indies have said their players can fully participate in the IPL, with only a few conditions. But England, Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh boards have given approval with some conditions.
Most Australian players will be part of the IPL, except Josh Hazlewood, who will join in from the first week of May. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) says its players can join unless they are unfit or have international duties. Bangladesh and Ireland have allowed their players to participate, but with some limitations.
The BCCI has received information that players from Afghanistan, West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand, and Zimbabwe will be available for the entire IPL duration. The situation for English players depends on their fitness and international schedule, which is still being finalized.
Some Sri Lankan players might be unavailable due to a scheduled Test match, but others like Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana, and Dushmantha Chameera will be available for the whole IPL since they don’t play in the Test format.
The BCB also mentioned that Taskin Ahmed and Md. Shariful Islam won’t be available for the IPL 2024 edition. Overall, the cricket boards are coordinating to ensure players’ availability during the IPL matches.
